Even though The Midland Valley Mustangs have not done well against the North Augusta Yellow Jackets recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Midland Valley slipped by North Augusta 49-48. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Traevon Dunbar had a dynamite game for Midland Valley, rushing for 311 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Mcnair, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why North Augusta lost, one person who can't be blamed is Corey Tillman. Despite the final result, he rushed for 166 yards while picking up 9.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt. Tillman was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Michael Doe, who gained 149 total yards and three touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Midland Valley and nudges their season record down to 11-0. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points per game. As for North Augusta, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.
Midland Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. North Augusta also has no future games currently scheduled.
