Scarlett Whittaker was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Fredericksburg Christian got a massive performance out of Haylie Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Johnson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rylie Johnson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
The victory was the third in a row for Fredericksburg Christian, bringing their record up to 13-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Isle of Wight Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Looking ahead, Fredericksburg Christian will face off against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. Isle of Wight Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
