Evan Hogg was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of SouthLake Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't).
Hogg wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sean Rodesiler, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Rodesiler has become a key player for SouthLake Christian Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Isaac Shires was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Metrolina Christian Academy entered their tilt with Charlotte S on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Stampede a 1-0 shutout. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Warriors have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Metrolina Christian Academy also got a great performance from Case Gibbs as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gibbs has posted since back in March.
Metrolina Christian Academy's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. SouthLake Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Metrolina Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
