The Oberlin The Phoenix 's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Firelands by a score of 36-33. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Oberlin of the 55-45 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Oberlin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carmello Williams, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Jakshawn Windham, who scored eight points.
Oberlin's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Firelands, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oberlin won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wellington at 3:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for Firelands, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Norwalk at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norwalk knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Firelands likes a good challenge.
