Basketball Recap: Palmer Comes Up Short

Palmer was the 70-60 winner over West Tallahatchie when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Palmer Dragons fell just short of the West Tallahatchie Choctaws by a score of 66-63 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Dragons have suffered since February 8th.

When it comes to explaining why Palmer lost, don't look at Jalean Tweedy. Despite the final result, he posted 30 points and seven rebounds. Tweedy's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Martavious Davis was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Tallahatchie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayden Sample, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Sample is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cavorgie Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards.

With the loss, Palmer broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6. As for West Tallahatchie, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.

Palmer will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Calhoun City at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. West Tallahatchie also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Leland at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
