2A District 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Cuba and Wingate played the most hotly contested game in 2A District 5 this week, with Cuba eventually emerging with a 14-8 victory.
Newcomb led the league in scoring this week after putting up 36 points on Crownpoint. LANDON YAZZIE threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 24 yards in the win.
JERMAINE MOSES was the best wideout in the league this week as the Sky Hawks defeated the Eagles. MOSES tallied eight receptions for 128 yards. AERIC LEE helped Newcomb's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Izaac Eredia was the most productive running back in 2A District 5 this week. He ran for 70 yards on 12 carries as Navajo Prep bested Crownpoint. Jesse Eredia also contributed to the rushing game with 21 yards on the ground.
Navajo Prep's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Tyler Sorensen has thrown for 916 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Mikaele Mauga has 30 catches for 659 yards. Eredia leads the league in rushing with 251 yards.
