On Saturday, the Hooper Bay Warriors faced the Scammon Bay Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hooper Bay fell 67-59 to Scammon Bay. It was the first time this season that Hooper Bay let down their fans at home.
Hooper Bay lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Latrell Lake, who scored 23 points. Lake continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Long, who scored 17 points.
Scammon Bay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stewie Sundown, who scored 20 points. Dallas Kaganak was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Hooper Bay's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Scammon Bay, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hooper Bay will square off against Unalaska on Thursday. Scammon Bay will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on January 25th. Non Varsity Tournament Opponent is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
