Softball Game Preview: Millis Mohawks vs. Dedham Marauders

Millis and Dedham are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mohawks are taking a road trip to take on the Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Millis has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Millis came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Norton, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Mohawks couldn't push the score so high this time.

Millis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoe Sparks, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Dedham had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Marauders, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Liana Florio was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Nicole Andrews also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Dedham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Dedham's record is now 7-4. As for Millis, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Millis suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Dedham in their previous meeting on April 8th. Can the Mohawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
