Vasquez gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Beverly Hills Normans 49-21. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 26-21 win the Normans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
Zack Van Ornum was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 167 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Those 167 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Blake Mascon also helped out as he racked up 110 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Vasquez was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 387 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beverly Hills only rushed for -1 rushing yards.
Vasquez's defense stepped up as well, laying out Luca Brenner. six times. The heavy lifting was done by Javier Gonzalez and Brady Rowe, who racked up four sacks between them.
Several Normans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden Gecovich, who picked up 121 receiving yards and one TD.
