Monte Vista had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with an 89-79 victory over the Kearny Komets. The Monarchs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Monte Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Villanueva led the charge by putting up 21 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Daesean Jenkins was another key player, posting 17 points and six boards.

Monte Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Komets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Ackerman, who went 11 for 16 on his way to 25 points and seven rebounds. Those 25 points gave Ackerman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marlon Mejia, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.1 points per game. As for Kearny, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Monte Vista didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-54 win against Clairemont on the 7th. Kearny has also already played their next contest, a 69-48 victory against Classical Academy on the 7th.
