Troy Christian proved they can win big on Monday (they won by three) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past Cedarville 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since September 13th.
Troy Christian wouldn't go down easily and took Cedarville into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-7, 20-25, 15-12.
Meanwhile, Botkins waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Cavaliers by a score of 3-1.
Botkins had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14.
Botkins' win came from a few key players Troy Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kambree Walters, who had 16 digs and five assists. That's the most assists she has posted since back in August. Madison Loy was another key player, getting 14 digs.
Botkins' win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Troy Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Troy Christian has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 11 aces per game. However, it's not like Botkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Troy Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Botkins in their previous matchup back in September, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
