The Auburn Mountainview Lions will challenge the White River Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburn Mountainview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.1 runs per game this season.
Auburn Mountainview's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Decatur 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Lions have posted against the Golden Gators since April 23, 2018.
Not much got past McKenna Ward, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Decatur off the board. Ward has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mia Heigh was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Tessa Trippy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Auburn Mountainview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last five games, White River finally came back down to earth on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Enumclaw. The contest marked the first time this season in which White River was not able to get on the board.
White River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Selander, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Auburn Mountainview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for White River, they moved to 6-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Auburn Mountainview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .441. However, it's not like White River struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Auburn Mountainview took their win against White River when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
