Basketball Recap: Tradition Prep Comes Up Short

After flying high against Odyssey Charter School last Thursday, Tradition Prep came back down to earth. The Tradition Prep Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 53-52 to the Treasure Coast Titans. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Tradition Prep had strong showings from Ethan Chevres, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points and five assists, and Avery Johnson, who posted 22 points and three steals. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydan Fields, who put up four points along with 14 rebounds and four blocks.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Tradition Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Treasure Coast only racked up five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Treasure Coast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isaiah Dunkley, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Dunkley has become a key player for Treasure Coast: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least ten boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Warren Sharry, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Tradition Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Treasure Coast, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Tradition Prep will take on Okeechobee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tradition Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.5 points per game this season. As for Treasure Coast, they and Sebastian River will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Treasure Coast also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 59.1 points per game.
