The Liberty-Benton Eagles will take on the Upper Sandusky Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Liberty-Benton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Coldwater hit Liberty-Benton with a four-run sixth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell 6-1 to the Cavaliers. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Megan Gerken spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Upper Sandusky made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wynford on Friday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Royals. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kenslee Swavel made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ella Frombaugh was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Adilyn Hessey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Liberty-Benton's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9. As for Upper Sandusky, their record is now 19-5.
Upper Sandusky's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty-Benton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Upper Sandusky, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Liberty-Benton's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
