Softball Recap: Rochester's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Rochester dropped their record down to 18-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell 3-0 to the Carterville Lions. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Rockets haven't been shut out since back in April.

As for Carterville, the win (which was their 18th in a row) raised their record to 22-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

For Carterville's part, Caidence Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Phillips has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Phillips wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colbie Bennett, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Rochester didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-1 loss against Washington on the 10th. As for Carterville, they have also already played their next game, a 2-0 defeat against Glenwood on the 10th.
