Assumption and Oldham County are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Rockets will head out on the road to challenge the Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Assumption is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: West Jessamine, who was ranked sixth at the time (Assumption was ranked tenth). The Rockets walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Colts on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.
Ava Lou Mattingly made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Mattingly was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Oldham County got themselves on the board against Ryle on Thursday, but Ryle never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Raiders. The result was nothing new for the Colonels, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Laken Nimmo looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lori Edgar, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Sydney Wirth also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Assumption hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Oldham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Assumption came out on top in a nail-biter against Oldham County in their previous matchup back in June of 2025, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
