The Westover Patriots will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Valdosta Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Westover will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Valdosta is ranked 29th).
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Westover, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-45 loss to Dougherty.
Westover's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Traveion Wheeler, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds, and Jalen Holmes who scored 9 points. Anthony Milton was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Valdosta put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 66-33 victory over Cook at home. Considering Valdosta has won three matchups by more than 32 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Israel Jenrette, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Jenrette is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The losses dropped Westover to 2-2 and Dougherty to 5-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Westover hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50 points per game. It's a different story for Valdosta, though, as they've been averaging only 67.3 per game. The only thing between Westover and another offensive beatdown is Valdosta. Will they be able to keep them contained? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
Westover was able to grind out a solid victory over Valdosta in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 50-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westover since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
