The Floyd Central Highlanders will venture away from home to challenge the Columbus North Bull Dogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Floyd Central is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
Floyd Central's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Seymour with a sharp 10-0 win. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Adeline Shultz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
In other batting news, Floyd Central got a massive performance out of Addy Ware, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Ware has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Natalie Curtis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Floyd Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seymour only posted an OBP of .217.
Meanwhile, Columbus North suffered their closest defeat since April 8th on Saturday. They fell just short of Bedford North Lawrence by a score of 8-6. The loss continues a trend for the Bull Dogs in their meetings with the Stars: they've now lost three in a row.
Summer Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Miley McClellan was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Floyd Central pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus North, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Floyd Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbus North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Floyd Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Columbus North in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
