The Yorba Linda Mustangs will take on the Sonora Raiders at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Sonora took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Yorba Linda, who comes in off a win.
Yorba Linda's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Troy 10-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Samantha Cook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Cook was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madeline Jeanblanc was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooke Boyd, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Yorba Linda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Sonora fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Villa Park on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4. The Raiders' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Ashlyn Pantages made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Saiza, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Yorba Linda now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Sonora, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Yorba Linda has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Sonora struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Yorba Linda couldn't quite finish off Sonora when the teams last played back in March and fell 3-1. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
