Cannelton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Cannelton was beaten by Medora 64-30.
Despite the defeat, Cannelton got a solid performance out of Trevor Hale, who scored 11 points. Hale scored a full 36.7% of Cannelton's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Shawe Memorial pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-61 to Trimble County. Shawe Memorial has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cannelton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Shawe Memorial, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Cannelton was dealt a bruising 63-26 loss at the hands of Shawe Memorial in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cannelton was down 40-12.
