The Canon City Tigers will challenge the Pueblo East Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
While Canon City's win against Coronado wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Cougars 21-20. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Tigers were the better team in the second half.

Canon City can attribute much of their success to Trey Schumacher, who rushed for 36 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 112 yards on six of 14 attempts. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Schumacher a new career-high. Canon City also got a significant boost from Jake Adamic, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.
Canon City didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Basham and Kayden Benson.
Meanwhile, Pueblo East won against Sierra last Friday with 62 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Eagles blew past Pueblo Central 62-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since November 1, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Canon City better keep an eye on Dolphka Lewis. He was instrumental in Pueblo East's win, rushing for 80 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 138 yards and three TDs on only ten passes. Lewis is also crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Logan Trujillo was another key player, gaining 59 total yards and two touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Pueblo East proved: they limited Pueblo Central to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Dylan Cooper for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pueblo East didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Pueblo East, racking up 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Xavian Khamphavong, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Pueblo East now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Canon City, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Canon City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 259.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pueblo East struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 224.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
