Waverly fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Kearney on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 3-2. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Owen Glassburner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Waverly saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Schieffer, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Waverly's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Kearney, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Waverly wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Grand Island on the 26th. As for Kearney, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Lincoln East on the 26th.
