Basketball Recap: Westminster Christian Academy Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Westminster Christian Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 71-63 victory over the Peachtree Academy Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 74-34 last Tuesday.

Westminster Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josiah Richards, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Richards is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Ethan Townsend, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards.

Westminster Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Peachtree Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Jackson went 7 of 16 on his way to 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordi Bello, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.

Westminster Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Peachtree Academy, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westminster Christian Academy will head out to take on Lanier Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lanier Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Westminster Christian Academy likes a good challenge. As for Peachtree Academy, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Peachtree Academy Panthers duke it out with the Trinity Christian School of Griffin LIONS at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Peachtree Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
