Basketball Game Preview: Richton Rebels vs. Sumrall Bobcats

The Richton Rebels will be taking part in a tournament against the Sumrall Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Richton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.

Richton will bounce into Friday's game after beating Purvis, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Richton walked away with a 57-46 win over Purvis on Friday. Given the Rebels' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Richton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rakhiya Moody out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. Moody is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Dherria Barlow was another key player, putting up 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

While Sumrall didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They secured a 49-43 W over West Marion on Tuesday.

Richton's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.8 points per game. As for Sumrall, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Richton took their win against Sumrall in their previous matchup on Thursday by a conclusive 60-35. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sumrall's Ella Robertson, who posted 22 points and seven rebounds.
