Paxton hasn't had much luck against Maywood/Hayes Center recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Paxton Tigers just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves at 8:00 p.m. Paxton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
On Thursday, Paxton was fully in charge, breezing past Leyton 64-35. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 23 points or more this season.
Paxton relied on the efforts of Maddex Mcconnell, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 16 points and three steals, and Tanner Hebblethwaite, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Hebblethwaite, who posted six points and four steals.
Meanwhile, Maywood/Hayes Center beat Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] 53-45 on Tuesday.
Maywood/Hayes Center's win came from a few key players Paxton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaxson Anders, who had 22 points and five rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kade Broz was another key player, putting up four points along with eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Maywood/Hayes Center smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Maywood/Hayes Center is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for Paxton, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Paxton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maywood/Hayes Center struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Paxton couldn't quite finish off Maywood/Hayes Center in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 42-39. Can Paxton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
