Baseball Recap: Spring Mills Has No Trouble Against Fairland

The Spring Mills Cardinals made easy work of the Fairland Dragons on Friday and carried off a 23-2 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

JP Sweeney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Sweeney was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one RBI. Those five hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Spring Mills got a massive performance out of Aiden Eichelberger, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Eichelberger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trestyn Wysocki, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Spring Mills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairland only posted an OBP of .375.

Spring Mills has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Fairland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Spring Mills will head out to square off against Clarke County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fairland, they will square off against John Marshall at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dragons are facing the Monarchs at the right time seeing as the Monarchs are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
