Cole Millington made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nicholas Sauer-Jones and Brayden Poirer did most of the damage at the plate: Sauer-Jones went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Poirer went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Sauer-Jones a new career-high. Jeremiah Freebern was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Johnsburg Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Schroon Lake only posted a batting average of .136.
Meanwhile, Chazy got the win against Boquet Valley last Friday by a conclusive 14-3. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Griffins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Jack McAuliffe was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Novak Jarus, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Johnsburg Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chazy, their record now sits at 10-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Johnsburg Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Chazy struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Johnsburg Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Chazy when the teams last played on May 2nd, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
