Basketball Recap: Will Szablewski Key Part of a Team Effort in Lancers Win

St. Mary got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They came out on top against the Cardinal O'Hara Hawks by a score of 60-50 on Tuesday. The Lancers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hawks, too.

St. Mary's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Szablewski out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The contest was Szablewski's third in a row with at least ten points. Landon Patterson was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mickel Ivey, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. Ivey is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Harper, who posted nine points and three steals.

St. Mary's is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

St. Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 72-59 win against St. Francis on the 10th. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-50 loss against Nichols on the 10th.
