Dublin Scioto is a perfect 3-0 against Westland since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Irish will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 5:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Westland will be up against a hot Dublin Scioto squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Everything went the Irish's way against Worthington Kilbourne on Monday as they made off with a 14-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won ten games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Avery Reynolds was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyla Magnussen, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gina Wasko, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Dublin Scioto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Westland had to endure a 13-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Whitehall-Yearling 14-13.
Westland let Abby Cochran and Sophie Harris run wild. Cochran went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Harris went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Cochran a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Barnett, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Dublin Scioto pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Westland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-14.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dublin Scioto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .518. However, it's not like Westland struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Dublin Scioto's way against Westland in their previous matchup on April 7th, as Dublin Scioto made off with a 22-0 win. Will the Irish repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
