The Lathrop Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-40 walloping at the hands of Mountain House. While losing is never fun, Lathrop can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 911th, while Mountain House is ranked 181st).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reniel Crisostomo, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was January Murillo, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Among those leading the charge was Jordan Assefa, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Coldin Parker, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Lathrop has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Mountain House, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.
Lathrop will play host again and welcome Los Banos, where tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain House, they will head out on the road to square off against Ceres at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ceres' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
