ALFREDO ENCINAS was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of MICHEL MUNIZ, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic got the win against Marana on Friday by a conclusive 9-1. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Lucas Shannon made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Christopher Gutierrez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Raetzman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Raetzman is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Izaiah Moraga was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Salpointe Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marana only managed three hits.
Sunnyside's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Salpointe Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 6-0-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sunnyside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Salpointe Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
