Skyridge has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The American Fork Cavemen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Skyridge's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
Skyridge fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Pleasant Grove on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 34-31. Despite 226 more yards than Pleasant Grove, Skyridge couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trevan Mcclellan, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Trent Call also helped out as he racked up 106 receiving yards.
Even if they lost, Skyridge's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Deshawn Toilolo and Iakopo Malufau who racked up 5.5 sacks between them.
Meanwhile, American Fork was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Westlake 38-7 on the road. Given American Fork's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked second, while Westlake is ranked 62nd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
American Fork's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Story, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns. American Fork also got a significant boost from Jacob Eardley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 111 yards.
With Skyridge's defeat and American Fork's win, both teams now sport identical 8-1 records.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Skyridge has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 480.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like American Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 363.6 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Everything came up roses for Skyridge against American Fork in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 37-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Skyridge since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
