The Westwood Redhawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Irmo 63-0. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Irmo is ranked third).
Irmo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron (AJ) Brand Jr., who threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Jaden Allen-hendrix was another key contributor, rushing for 120 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.
Westwood's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.6 points per game. As for Irmo, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Westwood will be playing in front of their home fans against Richland Northeast at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Irmo, they will head out on the road to face off against Lugoff-Elgin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
