Pueblo South (Pueblo, Colo.) saw its 15-point lead shrink to 10, but hung on to beat
Pueblo West (Colo.) 31-21 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Nathan Spinuzzi touchdown run in the second quarter, the Colts were up 21-7 at the half.
Pueblo South grew its lead to 15 points entering the fourth quarter. PS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown pass by Spinuzzi to
Devin Valdez.
With the win the Pueblo school extended its winning streak to seven games. Pueblo South defeated Widefield 42-20 last week.
The Cyclones came in allowing just 12.8 points per game this season. Pueblo West struggled against Pueblo South's offense, who entered the game scoring 28.9 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which PW took, 44-20.
The defeat comes as a step back for Pueblo West, who notched a 21-7 victory over Pueblo Centennial in its previous outing. The loss broke Pueblo West's two-game winning streak.
In a 4A Foothills game next week Pueblo South (8-1) takes on Cheyenne Mountain, and Pueblo West (6-3) will go up against Mesa Ridge also in a 4A Foothills game.
