Creek Wood is 0-3 against Watertown since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Red Hawks will challenge the Purple Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Creek Wood barely beat West Creek the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Hawks blew past the Coyote 12-2 on Thursday.
Hunter Bennett looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ej Larkin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Noah Allsbrooks also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Watertown was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Gordonsville as they made off with a 16-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Purple Tigers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Shaun Potter made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, Noah Murphy was excellent, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Luke Vance, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Creek Wood has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Watertown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-3.
Creek Wood came up short against Watertown in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, falling 3-0. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
