Lathrop is 2-8 against the Mustangs since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Both teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lathrop has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while the Mustangs will arrive with 12 straight wins.
Lathrop lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They were outmatched by Bear Creek on the road and fell 78-51. Lathrop has struggled against the Bruins recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Mountain House stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 62-41 margin over Atwater. Given Mountain House's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Falcons are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shamar Jones was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points. Charles Wolfe was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Lathrop's defeat dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Mountain House, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6.
Lathrop might still be hurting after the 63-40 defeat they got from the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mountain House's Jordan Assefa, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Now that Lathrop knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
