The Branham Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain View Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Branham is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Branham stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Greenfield 41-14 at home.
Branham's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Lewis led the charge by throwing for 267 yards and four touchdowns while completing 74.1% of his passes. Preston Conrad did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 140 receiving yards.
Even though Mountain View has not done well against Burlingame recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mountain View took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-21 victory over Burlingame. Mountain View pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Burlingame had little chance of recovering from.
Mountain View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Arturo Hernandez, who rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Lex Silver was in the mix as well, providing Mountain View with two touchdowns.
Branham has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Mountain View, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Branham has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 207.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 170 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
