Whitney is 0-10 against Cerritos since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will welcome the Dons at 3:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Whitney is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Bolsa Grande 17-2 on Monday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
Amaya Dugal and Monicka Manni were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Dugal tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Manni struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Dugal has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Dugal went 2-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Manni scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, Manni posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Whitney let Ella Nelson and Chiugo Anyama run wild. Nelson scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Anyama scored four runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs Anyama has posted since back in February of 2024. Olachi Anyama was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
Whitney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.2.
Meanwhile, Cerritos had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 19-1 win. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Dons this season.
Cerritos' victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Whitney, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Whitney has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cerritos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Whitney suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Cerritos in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
