The Gaston Christian Eagles were the 56-41 winner over SouthLake Christian Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gaston Christian took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of SouthLake Christian Academy. Gaston Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gaston Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Happy Arune, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Jessica Williams who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Arune scored a full 37.8% of Gaston Christian's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Mingo, who scored four points along with seven assists.
Even though they lost, Gaston Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Gaston Christian bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston Christian will face off against Northside Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine Lake Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
