The Garfield Bulldogs had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.8 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-16 win over Roosevelt. Considering Garfield has won nine matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Garfield can attribute much of their success to Robert sanchez, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Sanchez hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Damian Cabrera, who threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns while completing 92.3% of his passes.
Garfield's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-1 Franklin and 10-2 Eagle Rock (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 58.3% over those games). As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Garfield will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on San Pedro at 7:00 p.m. on November 9th. Roosevelt will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Wilson at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Wilson is ranked 788th, while Roosevelt is ranked 794th).
