It was a good run, but the Reed Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a rough 65-42 defeat at the hands of Spanish Springs. Reed has struggled against Spanish Springs recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Reed lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tj Coulter, who scored 16 points. That was a full 38.1% of Reed's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Williams, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Reed struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Spanish Springs racked up 20 assists.
Spanish Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Hensley, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Josiah McBride, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Reed's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Spanish Springs, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9.
Reed will take on Bishop Manogue at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Bishop Manogue is ranked 40th, while Reed is ranked 35th). As for Spanish Springs, they will head out on the road to challenge Damonte Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Damonte Ranch knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Spanish Springs likes a good challenge.
