Softball Recap: Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Parkrose Broncos, sneaking past 10-9. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won three in a row.

Sage Nuckols was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Keara Neel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those triples were her first of the season. Kylie Brown was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts' record now sits at 6-15. As for Parkrose, they are on a 44-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-22.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts will venture away from home to square off against Canby at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Parkrose, they will head out to challenge Putnam at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Kingsmen will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Broncos surely won't give up without a fight.
