The Edgewood Red Wolves scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Pineapple Cove Classical Academy and snuck past 71-68. The victory was some much needed relief for Edgewood as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Edgewood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Wasdin out in front who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wasdin scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jack Christy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Pineapple Cove Classical Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anthony Bender. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Bender posted two or more blocks. Matthew Barna was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Edgewood's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Pineapple Cove Classical Academy, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-11.
Edgewood will square off against Rockledge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockledge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Edgewood in Florida (Rockledge is ranked 38th, while Edgewood is ranked 729th). Pineapple Cove Classical Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Odyssey Charter School at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th.
