The Trico Pioneers will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Shawnee Redskins at 6:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Thursday, Trico ended up a good deal behind the Indians and lost 50-33. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Trico in their matchups with the Indians: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, Shawnee's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 61-17 loss at the hands of Ballard Memorial. While losing is never fun, Shawnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 687th in Illinois, while the Bombers are ranked 153rd in Kentucky).
Despite the loss, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: Emma Young scored eight points. That was a full 47.1% of Shawnee's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Trico has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Shawnee, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Everything came up roses for Trico against the Redskins when the teams last played last Thursday as the squad secured a 45-12 win. With Trico ahead 31-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
