On Friday, the Quitman Panthers faced the Morton Panthers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Quitman fell to Morton 46-40. Quitman was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Morton apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on January 2nd.
Quitman's loss came despite strong showings from AUDRIANA HARRIS and AALIYAH NIXON. HARRIS dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while NIXON scored 15 points along with three steals. HARRIS is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played.
Quitman's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5. As for Morton, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Quitman will take on Northeast Jones at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Northeast Jones focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday. As for Morton, they will be playing at home against Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Morton is ranked eighth).
