Basketball Game Preview: Worthing Colts vs. Yates Lions

The Worthing Colts are taking a road trip to take on the Yates Lions at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Worthing is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Worthing is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their match on Saturday with ease, bagging a 72-6 win over Scarborough. The Colts have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for DeeDee Williams, who posted 20 points. Her morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Disney Dominique, who earned ten points.

Meanwhile, Yates strolled past North Forest with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 47-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Yates' win came from a few key players Worthing will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Karneshia Smith, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 steals. Smith is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Taniyah Cooper was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven boards and six steals.

Yates has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Worthing, their record now sits at 13-4.

Worthing came up short against Yates when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 53-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Smith, who went 12 of 24 on her way to 25 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
