Softball Recap: Boylan Catholic's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Boylan Catholic had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 7-8 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Guilford Vikings by a score of 9-4. For the Titans, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Ari Ousley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddy Kiley, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Leah Pastuska also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Boylan Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Guilford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Boylan Catholic since on Wednesday.

On Guilford's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Malia Welch gave up four earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Cali Welding was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Amiyah Wyrick was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Boylan Catholic and Guilford will both be playing Rockford Auburn the next time they take the field. The Titans will head out to face the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Vikings will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
