Navarre and West Florida are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Navarre Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the West Florida Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Navarre has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while West Florida will come in with nine straight wins.
Navarre came up short against Jay on Friday, falling 10-3.
Gavin Gray was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Navarre saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garrett Gilbert, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Another was Logan Hand, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, West Florida never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Walton with a sharp 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Adam Geiger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of John Hatch, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
West Florida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Navarre's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for West Florida, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Navarre has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Florida struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
