The Pamlico County Hurricanes suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of East Carteret by a score of 69-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Pamlico County has suffered against East Carteret since February 19, 2016.
When it comes to explaining why Pamlico County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Braylen Ollison was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with ten assists and eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Pamlico County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Carteret only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
East Carteret's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shamel Baker led the charge by scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Baker is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Matheka, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Pamlico County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for East Carteret, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pamlico County will take on Jones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jones is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for East Carteret, they will head out on the road to take on Southside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
