The Champaign Central Maroons pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 61-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Centennial. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Champaign Central in their matchups with Centennial: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the defeat, Champaign Central had strong showings from Chris Bush, who scored 23 points, and Aidyn Beck, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Luke Swanson, who scored nine points.
Champaign Central dropped their record down to 10-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Centennial, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Champaign Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Peoria Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Champaign Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to square off against Peoria at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Peoria knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Centennial likes a good challenge.
